The Search Institute in Minneapolis, MN, has conducted extensive research since 1958 on the character traits present in the lives of most successful youth. Based on that research, SHAPE leadership chose the 40 Developmental Assetsas the foundation of the initiative.
ASSETera. . .
Individually, each asset is important, but the true power of the assets emerge as they link together. There is no single combination that is best for all youth (or adults, for that matter!) or that predicts positive behaviors. Rather the assets framework is designed to identify a common core of positive developmental experiences that, working together, support each individual.
SHAPE is a community-based organization. There are no membership applications or fees. Rather, SHAPE exists to unite youth and adults throughout the greater Holland/Springfield community for one purpose — to increase the presence of all 40 Assets throughout the entire community. It is SHAPE’s vision that all youth be nurtured in commitment, values, competencies and self-esteem to accomplish all that they desire.
SHAPE is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
All contributions are tax-deductible.
